Hunsaker served in the Utah State House of Representatives from 1990 to 1997. He was then reappointed to the Utah House of Representatives in 2005. He served in that position until 2011.
Hunsaker served in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1957 to 1965. He then was the Vice President of First Security Bank of Utah from 1965 to 1977. From 1977 to 1989, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of First Federal Savings Bank. He then worked as Associate Commissinoer Higher Education from 1997 to 1999. Hunsaker worked as Administrative Affairs Vice President at Utah State University from 1991 to 2004 as well. In 2004, he was Acting Athletic Director at Utah State University.
Hunsaker earned his B.S. in Finance and Economics from Utah State University in 1965. He went on to receive his MS from the University of Washington Pacific Coast Banking School in 1975.
Hunsaker did not run for re-election to the House of Representatives in 2010. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.
