Campaign themes

Rothblatt's campaign website listed the following issues:[2]

  • Space: "The era of “Old Space”—government dominated space—is over. It is time for new leadership with new ideas. It is time for leadership who understands how to link the best of government with the best of private industry. It is time for leadership who understands NewSpace."
  • Jobs/Economy: "I say “yes” to smart government, not big government. That means making foreign trade agreements that actually benefit us, so jobs and innovation thrive in America, and “Made in USA” appears proudly on products sold around the world. It means lowering taxes on small businesses, so they can make jobs. It means investing in our teachers, our law enforcement officers, and the construction workers who will rebuild our nation’s infrastructure."
  • Health Care: "As your congressperson, I will fight to guarantee that everyone in America has access to quality health care, as outlined in The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act. It is about time our great country joined the most civilized nations on earth in making its citizens health a priority. It’s just the right thing to do."
  • Education: "Imagine schools that instill a love of learning, rather than a fear of failing. Imagine teachers and administrators who are encouraged to lead and guide their students, rather than just manage and punish them. Healthy, smart children are the key to the future of District 8, our economy, our national security and our culture."
  • Agriculture: "The USA has led the world in agricultural achievements, just as we’ve led the world in technology and political developments. Part of that leadership is an uncanny ability to pivot, moving from an established – but unsustainable path – to the right path for the future. Now is our time to shift course with agriculture. Population is booming. Land is suffering. Water is rapidly becoming a rare – as well as precious – resource. It’s time to put American know-how back to work with fresh thinking, a willingness to change, and bold action."
