LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas: Current state representative Gary Stubblefield (R) announced earlier this month that he will run for election to the Arkansas State Senate in 2012.[1]

Stubblefield was first elected to the District 67 in the 2010 elections when he unseated sitting incumbent Steve Breedlove (D).

As a result of the redistricting process, there is no incumbent currently living in District 6.[1]

In 2012, there are 10 total incumbents termed out of office in the Arkansas State Senate. Of those 10, seven are Democrats and three are Republicans. Republicans would need to pick up three seats in order to take control of the chamber. During the 2010 elections, the GOP had a seven-seat gain on election night.

The 2012 election season will prove to be highly electric in Arkansas.
