Gordon Howie
Gordon Howie was a 2014 independent candidate seeking election to the U.S. Senate from South Dakota.[1] Although Howie was registered as an Independent, he ran as a conservative candidate. Howie said, "I am a Republican philosophically. I am now a registered independent, but I fully embrace the Republican Party platform. That is a significant difference between me and some other Republicans who are running for office.”[2] Gordon Howie lost the general election on November 4, 2014.
Biography
Howie (b. July 23, 1949) was a Republican member of the South Dakota State Senate from 2009 to 2011, representing the 30th District. Howie lost in the Republican primary for governor and did not run for re-election to his seat. Howie also served in the South Dakota State House from 2004 to 2009.
Howie worked as a real estate broker for Gordon Howie Real Estate from 1970 to 2006. He was a rancher and owner of Holy Cow Ranch from 1994 to 2006.[3]

2010
Howie did not run for re-election to the 30th District seat in 2010. He lost in the Republican primary for governor on June 8, 2010. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.
2008
On Nov. 4, 2008, Howie won election to the 30th District Seat in the South Dakota State Senate, defeating opponent David Melmer (D).[4]
Howie raised $13,738 for his campaign, while Melmer raised $3,928.[5]
