Gov. Beshear's campaign faces fundraising complaints
Unlike most of his contemporaries, though, Beshear's campaign has come under scrutiny as of late. Rodney Young, an employee of the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice, has alleged his colleagues were threatened, by a Beshear aide, with termination if they did not contribute $500 each to the current governor's campaign for re-election. The claim was made in a letter to Republican Party Chairman Steve Robertson and Attorney General Jack Conway.
Robertson responded by saying "these are very serious allegations that cannot be taken lightly." The attorney general's office acknowledged that the claim was received and is being processed, but declined further comment. Beshear spokesman Matt Erwin dismissed the claim's as being "based on gossip," and noted that information about the complaints were released a day after a Survey USA poll gave Beshear a 24 point lead over Republican challenger David Williams.
