The Grand Island City Council is made up of ten members with two members for each of five wards. Members are elected to four year terms. The City Council Chairman is elected by the other council members. At meetings, the Mayor is the presiding officer. The current mayor is Jay Vavricek.
The City Administrator is responsible for the day to day operations of the city and is accountable to the City Council. The current City Administrator is Mary Lou Brown.
