Superintendent

Rick Smith is the superintendent of Hamilton County School District. He has served in this position since July 2011. Smith earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee. Smith has worked in education for 38 years serving the Hamilton County School District as a teacher, coach, principal, middle school director, superintendent of operations and deputy superintendent.[5]

Academic performance

The Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program, or TCAP, is a set of statewide assessments given in Tennessee to measure students' skills and progress. Students in grades 3-8 take the Achievement Test, and high school students take End of Course exams for various subjects. Student results are categorized as below basic, basic, proficient or advanced. Students that are proficient or advanced are commmonly considered to be at or above grade level.[10]
