Campaign themes

Sawicki's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

Michigan has experienced strong economic growth under the leadership of the current administration and legislature. In Lansing, I will work hard to continue this momentum well into the future. And as the economy continues to strengthen, we can expect to see more job growth and prosperity throughout the State.

Balanced Budget
The government – whether it is local, state or federal – should not spend more money than it collects. A balanced budget is essential to a strong economy. Fortunately, Michigan has a balanced budget under the current governor and legislature. I plan to support policies that will keep our State on fiscally stable ground.

Taxes and Regulation
It is the responsibility of our State legislature to reduce or eliminate the tax and regulatory burdens on Michigan business and taxpayers. When considering new taxes or regulations, our representatives should (and I would) review all possible ways to avoid imposing new burdens on the people of Michigan. We must ask:

  • Is the expense or mandate absolutely necessary?
  • Can the policy goal be achieved in some way other than more taxes or more regulation?
  • What is the long-term consequence of a particular policy decision?
  • Does the decision add value to the lives of all Michigan citizens?[3][4]
