Howard Swint was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 2nd Congressional District of West Virginia. He won the Democratic primary on May 8, 2012.[1]


Swint is a commercial property leasing manager and opinion writer.[2] He earned two master's degrees from West Virginia University.[3]


Campaign themes


In a personal statement, Swint said he considered campaign finance reform to be the most important issue. He also said he would cut defense spending to reduce the federal deficit.[3]

Swint was defeated by incumbent Shelley Moore Capito.[4] Swint ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent West Virginia's 2nd District. He won the nomination on the Democratic ticket, defeating Dugald Brown and William McCann in the May 8 primary.[1] He faced Republican incumbent Shelley Moore Capito in the November 6 general election.[5]
