This measure sought to increase the current fire levy by a rate of $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further six years in order to continue to pay for operations and equipment costs in the fire authority area.
Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
|Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be levied against all property in the City of Howell, Cohoctah Township, Howell Township, Marion Township, and Oceola Township, Livingston County, Michigan, be increased by 1.5 mills (an ad valorem tax of $1.50 per thousand dollars of taxable value) for six (6) years, for the period December 2012 through December 2017 inclusive, to now replace the current 1.1 mill levy which would otherwise expire in December 2012, for the purpose of funding the operation of and capital equipment, facilities and improvements for the Howell Area Fire Authority and its provision of fire protection and other emergency health and safety services as authorized by Section 12 of Act 57 of the Public Acts of 1988, as amended, that being MCL 124.612, which new millage, if approved and levied, will raise in the first year of levy an estimated $2,155,078.00?|
