Senate Committees

The Human Services Committee is a standing committee of the Oregon House of Representatives.

Per Section 8 of the House Rules, committees of the Oregon House of Representatives are assigned by the Speaker of the House.[1] Committees are assigned at the start of each term.[2] A majority of appointed members make up a committee's quorum.[3] The Speaker is not an ex officio member of every committee.

Issues

E-cigarettes
In February 2014, Joel Nitzkin, a physician, testified before the committee in favor of restricting e-cigarettes from minors and keeping them out of high schools, but against legislation that would ban e-cigarettes anywhere cigarettes are banned. Legislation was introduced in the Oregon House of Representatives that would ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors and ban the use of e-cigarettes where tobacco products aren’t allowed.[4]
