SPRINGFIELD, Illinois: Last week Gov. Pat Quinn signed Senate Bill 355, moving the state's primary election back to it's original date - the third Tuesday in March. The change is effective for primary elections in 2012. In 2008, the state moved the primary date up to the first Tuesday in February, however, following the 2010 primary election officials noticed historically low voter turnouts.[1] According to reports, lawmakers moved the primary election date to February in order to help current President Barack Obama get an early win in Illinois during his run for the presidential office.[2]
