TOPEKA, Kansas: Kris Kobach, a candidate for the position of Kansas Secretary of State, has proposed that the state adopt the initiative process. The idea has yielded much criticism from major groups in the state, along with current Secretary of State Chris Biggs who argued that voter initiatives could result in much more expensive elections. The Kansas Livestock Association is against the idea as well, stating that Kobach's idea shows an "industry unfriendly" view.[1]

Other agriculture groups are concerned that certain organizations like the Humane Society of the United States would use voter initiatives as a tool to organize animal rights initiatives. Those initiatives, according to reports, have minimal support in the legislature.
