Dubuque v. Dubuque Racing Association, Ltd 1988 This case established that the mere inclusion of public officials on non-profit boards of directors did not result in that non-profit becoming subject to the Iowa Open Records Law.
Gannon and Nichols v. Iowa Board of Regents 2005 This case eliminated the requirement for malicious intent when applying the public records law to private corporations.
Howard v. Des Moines Register & Tribune Co. 1979
Iowa Civil Rights Commission v. City of Des Moines 1981
KMEG Television Inc. v. Iowa State Board of Regents 1989 This case established a number of important precedents:

1.) That subcontracting bid records conducted by a private agency employed by a public body are not public records.
2.) Established a 2 prong test for making the records of private companies serving a public function subject to the Iowa Open Records Law. This was later overturned by Gannon and Nichols v. Iowa Board of Regents.

Linder v. Eckard 1967
Northeast Council on Substance Abuse Inc. v. Iowa Dept. of Public Health, Div. of Substance Abuse 1994
