Issue 4, Increased County Sales Tax (November 2009)
This issue asked voters to raise the county sales tax by .5 percent. This would have made the sales tax 6.75 percent and would have given the county the extra money it needs to ensure they have money to fund the county. Due to cutbacks, 75 county workers have been laid off, many of them police officers and guards. Proponents of this permanent increase see this as the only way to give the county the extra money it needs to keep funding public safety. A board would be created to ensure the money is used where it is needed most.
