James R. Chylinski is a judge for the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County, Michigan.[1] He was appointed to this position by Gov. Blanchard in 1990. He was most recently re-elected on November 2, 2010 to a six-year term that will end on January 1, 2017.[2][3]

Biography and Education

Chylinski was born on November 25, 1948 in Detroit, MI. He received his A.B. and J.D. (1974) degrees from the University of Detroit Mercy.[4][5]


Chylinski began his career as a private practice lawyer. He then worked for the Wayne County Prosectors Office as a trial lawyer for six years before becoming a judge of the 36th District Court in 1981. He then served as a judge of the Detroit Recorder's Court from 1983 until he was appointed to the circuit court bench in 1990.[4][6]

2010 election

Chylinski was re-elected to the 3rd Circuit Court in the general election on November 2, 2010, along with 18 other judges.[2]

2000-2001 No Oath of Office

According to the Office of the Great Seal of Michigan, Judge Chylinski had no Oath on file for the years, 2000 and 2001, as required by the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.
