Jay Schenirer is a member of the Sacramento, California City Council. He was elected to the council in 2010.[1] In 2013, the Sacramento City Council appointed him as Mayor Pro Tempore. In 2014, he was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor.[2]


Schenirer's professional experience includes working as a consultant and policy adviser on education and youth polices. He has also worked as the Assistant Secretary for Education for Development and Planning, as the Deputy Director of the Foundation Consortium for California's Children and Youth, as the General Manager of the Sacramento Food Bank and as a member of the Board of Trustees of Sacramento City Unified School District.[1]

The city of Sacramento, California held elections for city council on November 4, 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. Because one candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary election for District 5, its general election was called off. Incumbent Jay Schenirer defeated Ali Cooper.[3][4]
