Staten ran in the special election for Mississippi House of Representatives District 36. The seat was vacant following David Gibbs's death on January 13. State faces Eddie Longstreet, Karl Gibbs, Bobbie C. Davis, Roderick Van Daniel and Jimmy Davidson in the special election which takes place on March 12, 2013.[1]
