Anderson was born and raised in Ely, Minnesota. Upon graduating from Ely Memorial High School, he joined the Minnesota Army National Guard, where he served as mechanized infantryman. During this time, he also attended college at Bemidji State and the University of Minnesota at Duluth. He has worked in television and radio for the last 16 years. He is also a councilman for the city of Duluth.
