On January 27, 2014, the Philadelphia district attorney charged Miranda and his sister with criminal conspiracy, perjury and conflict of interest. The charges against Miranda and his sister, Michelle Wilson, stated that Miranda hired a ghost (non-working) employee so that Miranda could circumvent state nepotism laws so that his sister could stay on as his chief of staff. The D.A. Seth Williams said that Miranda hired a man named Timothy Duckett, a former driver for his campaign, as a legislative assistant but did not require him to do any work. Duckett was ordered by Miranda to give part of his salary to Wilson, while Wilson continued to act as Miranda's chief of staff. If found guilty of the charges, Miranda will be removed from office.
