Kane County Forest District Bond Measure (April 2011)
This measure was approved
- YES 17,150 (52.38%)
- NO 14,917 (43.72)
This measure sought to allow the district to borrow $30 million for the forest district in order to expand land holdings as well as make capital improvements on the current preserved lands. The bond will add around $12 a year to the current property tax rate for average homes in the county. Opponents noted that while they believe in the nature preserve, asking for more money at this time is not the best move for the county. Proponents noted that land prices are cheap and this will be the best time to add to the current land preserve. Conservation officials had pointed out also that in the long run this could save residents money but know that any additional to taxes was a hard sell. The Conservation Foundation was in support of this measure adding to the campaign to help get it approved. The county also noted that this will be the lowest amount it has asked for and the acquisition of land would only better improve living conditions in the county.
