Campaign themes

Thompson's website highlights the following campaign themes:

Common Core

The Common Core curriculum in our schools is causing a decline in the performance and education of our Michigan students. Common Core was originally not adopted in 4 states and 12 states have followed in repealing the Common Core standards. Michigan needs to be the next state of repeal; to give our children a chance at a better tomorrow.

Help for Small Businesses
Small businesses in our area have been swallowed up by the larger box companies. Small businesses all over the state of Michigan need help staying open and maintaining the values by which they were built. Those same values are that of the American Dream, which we need to work to keep alive.

America has always been the land of opportunity but for some time now opportunities have been slim. Unemployment has been on the incline and a family's ability to take care of themselves has been on the decline. Michigan needs to work to help families get off of assistance and give them back the means to make dreams come true on their own. Keeping businesses in Michigan, as well as, hiring incentives for businesses, training programs for those on unemployment, and a return of Michigan educational scholarships are just a few ways of bringing more jobs to the people of District 12.[3][4]
