Rubenzer ran in the 2012 election for Minnesota House of Representatives District 42B. He was unopposed in the Republican primary on August 14 and was defeated by Jason Isaacson (D) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2]

Rubenzer ran for election to the District 54B seat in 2010. He had no primary opposition. He was defeated by Bev Scalze (DFL) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3]
