LOUISVILLE, Kentucky: The contest for the Republican nomination for Governor of Kentucky began to heat up Wednesday, as state Senate President David Williams began airing the first campaign ad of the season on Wednesday.[1]

The 60-second radio ad states that "Kentucky is adrift" and cites the conservative principles of Williams and his running mate, Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer. It does not go after his primary opponents, but rather incumbent Democrat Steve Beshear's plan to fix the Medicaid budget.[2]

The primary will take place on May 17, where Williams will face Louisville businessman Phil Moffitt and Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw. The winner of that contest will face Beshear and independent candidate Gatewood Galbraith in the November 8, 2011 general election.
