Biography

Hargett earned her B.A. in Political Science/Criminal Justice from North Carolina State University in 1987 and her teaching certificate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her professional experience includes working as a physical education teacher in the Union County School System since 1989 and as the owner and operator of beach rental properties.[1]

The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 28, 2014. Incumbent Mark Brody was unopposed in the Republican primary, while Kim Hargett was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Hargett was defeated by Brody in the general election.[3][4][5][6]

Personal

Hargett has been honored as Marshville Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. She is a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators, and was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina to serve on the N.C. State Health Plan Board of Trustees as the active teacher.[1]
