The good

  • Budget information is posted.[2]
  • Meeting information is available.[3]
  • Contact information is available for elected and administrative officials.[4]
  • Building permits and zoning information are available.[5]

The bad

  • There is no information on audits, contracts, lobbying, public records requests or local taxes.
  • The website does not include a search function.

Public Records

The Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council performed an audit of compliance with the Wisconsin Open Records Law in 2008. Three in ten of the requests submitted were found to be ignored or responded to in violation of state law.

The Langlade County Sheriff's Department charged $5 for a single page of requested materials, well over the $.015 per page recommended by the Wisconsin Department of Justice.[6]

See "Audit finds nearly 10% of open records requests denied or ignored" for more.
