The city of Laredo, Texas will hold elections for mayor and city council on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was August 18, 2014.[1]

Five city council seats are up for election. These include districts 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8.

Incumbents are running for reelection in districts 2, 3 and 6. District 2 incumbent Esteban Rangel and District 6 incumbent Charlie San Miguel are running unopposed, while District 3 incumbent Alejandro "Alex" Perez, Jr. faces two challengers. Mayor Raul G. Salinas, District 1 representative Mike Garza and District 8 representative Cindy Liendo are not running for reelection. Liendo, it should be noted, is running for mayor.

Several different issues are shaping Laredo's 2014 election cycle. Some of the most important concern public safety, economic development and access to potable water.[2][3] The latter issue has proven to be especially important as drought has slowly caused local reservoirs and other water sources in southern Texas to reach record lows.[2]
