A Las Animas Nursing Home Bond Measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in Las Animas County.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 2,452 (46.78%)
  • NO 2,790 (53.22%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to create a bond in the amount of $9 million in order to finance the possible bid for the Trinidad State Nursing Home. A one cent sales tax would have also been included in this in order to pay off the bond. Since this measure was defeated, the county will rescind its bid for the nursing home.[2] If the measure had been approved but the county did not put forth the winning bid for the nursing home, the measure would not have gone in to effect. Studies done by the county to see if owning the nursing home would have been economically feasible showed that the county did not need to own the nursing home, but that some institution should keep it running, even if it is a private company.[3]
