Introduction

Lawton is a city in and the county seat of Comanche County, Oklahoma. It is the principal city of the Lawton, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was estimated at 90,091 in 2008 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The City Council approves all ordinances, resolutions, and contracts, including but not limited to property sales, acquisitions and leases as well as major purchases of materials, equipment and services required by the city. With the advice and assistance of the City Manager, the Council reviews proposals for community needs, initiates action for new programs and determines the ability of the city to provide financing for City activities. The Council is responsible for approval of the annual operating budget.[3]

Administrative Officials

The City Manager is responsible for the enforcement of all pertinent State and Federal laws and the City Charter provisions; preparation of proposed annual operating budget and its administration after adoption. He advises the City Council regarding policy determination and performs administrative studies and activities upon the direction of Council.[10]
