Three statewide veto referendums have been on the Alaskan ballot since the first one appeared in 1968. Unlike most other states that allow this form of direct democracy, in Alaska a "yes" vote is a vote to overturn the statute that is being challenged.
Alaska Land-And-Shoot Referendum, Measure 6 (2000). 53% of voters voted to nullify the law.
Alaska Compensation and Retirement Referendum (1976). 80.1% of voters voted to nullify the law.
Upheld Alaska Voter Registration Referendum (1968). 51.3% voted to uphold the law.
