Issues

Campaign themes

2014

Overby's campaign website listed the following issues:[4]

  • Gun control: "The Second Amendment is the acknowledgment of our inalienable right as Americans to keep and bear arms, and this right shall not be infringed upon. I will oppose any piece of legislation that in any way seeks to curtail a law abiding citizen’s right to self preservation."
  • Energy Policy: "Federal energy policies serve as one of the biggest obstacles to national security we as a nation face today. Finding the balance between environmental stewardship and free market solutions has proven to be the biggest stumbling block on the road to a solution."
  • Marriage Equality: "I am in full favor of federal, universal Equality. I support the right of any consenting adults to marry and enjoy all protections under the law. Sexual orientation, preference, gender, and gender identity should have no impact on the government’s treatment of individuals."
  • Taxes & Deficit Spending: "Tax Reform The current tax code is intricate and cumbersome, relying on an interwoven system of loopholes and deductions to balance out already high taxes. My focus has been on simplifying the tax code and reducing the overall tax burden."
  • Foreign Policy: "I want to see the United States of America maintain the greatest military in the world. We should be able to defend against any threat, any enemy, and any power that might try to do us harm. That being said, our continued policy of international policing, foreign invasion and nation building is not only no longer fiscally sustainable, it is simply un-American. We must also no longer pursue a policy of perpetual war."
