Fernandez's campaign website listed the following issues:[2]
| “
|
- National Debt: "When the federal government runs a deficit, the Treasury borrows money from the public by selling securities in the capital markets. The debt is purchased by various buyers, including foreign investors, mutual funds, state and local governments, commercial banks, insurance companies and individuals. Of those groups, foreign investors currently own more than 40 percent of all federal debt issued to the public that is outstanding."
- Balanced Budget: "Balancing the budget must be a priority. The only exception to that rule should be at time of war declared by Congress. A balanced budget assures that those elected are doing everything in their power to not waste tax payer money. It's a very simple rule in life. You shouldn't spend what you don't have. Why won't those elected ever balance the budget?"
- Internal Revenue Service: "The IRS is one agency that needs to be completely revamped. I'm not against the elimination of the IRS. The IRS is responsible for collecting taxes and enforcement of the Internal Revenue Code. With the scandals that came to light in 2013, there is no doubt about the corruption taking place within this agency."
- Tax Reform: "The United States has the most complicated tax system in the world. The Internal Revenue Code (IRC) is equivalent to about 5 bibles. It is estimated that in the last 2 decades, the tax code has changed more than 15,000 times. That is an average of more than 2 changes a day."
- Education: "The dramatic improvement of Florida schools ranks as one of the state’s greatest public policy success stories. Our students once ranked near the bottom academically when compared to their peers in other states. Now they are proving that given the opportunity, all students can excel."
