Nine statewide ballot measures were on the June 11 and November 5, 1996 ballots in Maine.

One of the indirect initiated state statutes on the November 5 ballot was a choice between the initiated measure, a competing measure from the legislature and no to both of those options. The competing measure was chosen by the voters, but because it received less than half of the total votes on the matter, it was referred as a single measure on the November 4, 1997 ballot, where it was defeated.
