The Maine State Treasurer is a constitutionally established state executive position in the Maine state government. The office is in charge of recording, collecting and investing all state money. Main duties include debt management, cash management, trust fund administration and unclaimed property administration.[1]

Current officeholder

The current officeholder is Neria Douglass. Douglass was confirmed for the position on December 4, 2012.[2]

The previous officeholder was Bruce Poliquin. He was elected in 2010 by a joint ballot of state Senators and Representatives in convention.[3]

Authority

The state Constitution addresses the office of the treasurer in Article V, Part III, the Executive Department.

Under Article V, Part III, Section I:

The Treasurer shall be chosen biennially, at the first session of the Legislature, by joint ballot of the Senators, and Representatives in convention.
