AUGUSTA, Maine: The recount has begun. Last week Maine officials began the process of recounting thousands of cast votes cast on Maine Oxford Casino Initiative, Question 1 on November 2, 2010. According to results prior to the recount, the measure was approved by voters by less than one percent.[1]

The recount was initiated by opponents of the measure shortly following the November 2 general election. According to reports, if a recount had not been pursued a legal challenge would have been filed by opponents.[2]

Officials estimate that the recount will take several weeks. In the mean time, developers have already selected a site in Oxford, Maine to create the casino. On December 7, 2010 Black Bear Entertainment will hold a public hearing to answer questions about the Oxford Casino's current plans. The required meeting will be attended by all of the company owners and will specifically address such issues as the site location, traffic mitigation plans and community outreach.[3]
