In a submitted bio, Perea described his political philosophy:

I will work to restore the full force of the Bill of Rights in Montana law. I recognize the fact that the United States exists today because our founding fathers fought an economic revolution to be free of government intrusion into commerce. They have proven that free enterprise creates the only successful and sustainable economies in the world. So I will work to lower taxes and regulations on small businesses as much as possible so they can hire, expand, and grow. I will promote the use of Montana's natural resources for higher paying jobs while still respecting the environment and natural beauty of Montana. As a former teacher I will fight for education reform and abundant choices for families when it comes to education. I will work to reduce the wolf population and to preserve Montana's legacy of conservation for wilderness recreation of all kinds.

I am against discrimination of any kind. I believe in the sanctity of all human life. I believe that learning starts at home and in the classroom, and so I will make sure that the public schools systems in Montana respond to the needs of families and teachers first and foremost.[6][7]
