Mary Ann Handley was a Democratic member of the Connecticut State Senate, representing District 4. She served in that position from 1997 to 2011.

Handley was on the Manchester Board of Directors from 1987 to 1989. She then served as Deputy Mayor of Manchester from 1991 to 1996.

Handley attended Wesleyan University, the University of London, and University College. She went on to receive her B.A. from Connecticut College. She then earned her M.A. from the University of Connecticut.

Handley was a Professor of History at Manchester Community College from 1967 to 1997. She is now retired.

Handley has two children.
