Mason County Fire Districts 6 & 9 Levy Implementation (August 2011)
This measure was approved only in district 6.
This measure sought to implement a levy in both districts which would be set at a rate of $.35 per $1,000 of assessed property value for period of ten years in order to help pay for maintenance and operational costs of the districts.
This measure was also on the November 2010 ballot but was defeated as it did not get the 60 percent super majority needed to pass. Fire fighters in district 6 have been going around the area trying to promote the measure and hoping for greater support this time. They also hope that because there are less items on the ballot it will have a better chance of getting approved. The levy had expired last year so the district is currently running off of reserve money, but it was noted that it will not survive long that way.
