A Melbourne Business Tax Exemption measure was on the August 24, 2010 ballot in the city of Melbourne which is in Brevard County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 1,824 (61%)Approveda
  • NO 1,166 (39%)[1]

This measure sought to implement a program that would give certain businesses tax exemptions in the hopes of allowing these businesses to expand and having new businesses become established in the city. Previous tax exemptions given to local businesses had generated investments around $119 million with around 2,300 local jobs being create as well. City officials hope to keep this number rising with further exemptions being allowed with this ballot measure.[2] City officials had asked the political committee of the chamber of commerce to help in promoting this ballot measure, to ensure voters knew what the issue was about. Officials were in favor of putting the issue on the August ballot because it would be less crowded than the November one and even though voter turnout is lower, the issue would not be missed.[3]
