Menifee At-Large Mayoral Elections, Measure AA (November 2010)
Supporters collected signatures to qualify the measure for the ballot.
Menifee has five city council members, one of whom is chosen by his or her peers to serve as mayor. The five city council members, under the terms of Measure G, are elected from one of five districts in Menifee. It was approved.
Measure AA enacts two changes:
- Voters in the city will elect a mayor, and that mayor will be elected at-large.
- The other 4 city council members will continue to be elected from a district, but instead of 5 districts, there will be 4 districts. This will require re-drawing the boundary lines of the current 5 districts into just 4 districts.
Another ballot measure about how city council members and the mayor are chosen was also be on the November ballot: At-Large City Council Elections in Menifee, Measure DD (November 2010). If Measure AA and Measure DD both are approved, whichever one gets the most votes will go into effect to the extent that their provisions are in conflict. (See poison pill.)
Measure AA received slightly more affirmative votes (14,361) than Measure DD (14,181) and, as a result, where the provisions of the two measures are in conflict, Measure AA's provisions take precedence.
In June 2008, voters in the city approved Measure G, which mandated "by district" elections.
