Issues

Campaign themes

2014

McKenna's campaign website listed the following issues:[2]

  • Immigration: "Immigration reform is 25 years too late. It is time to act now. Once elected as your Representative you are guaranteed an Immigration Reform Act in 2015 that will be a step in the right direction in ensuring equality for ALL."
  • Economy: "Every day it is becoming clearer and clearer that our United States has a spending problem. We can no longer afford to have Representatives in Washington who are so far out of touch with reality they continue to write blank checks."
  • Women's Rights: "The United States was founded on the fundamental principle that all are created equal and fair treatment must be distributed evenly amongst men and women. I believe in equal pay for equal work. We need to push hard to end the gender gap and level the playing field in businesses and corporations. There is alot of work that remains in order to get women to the pay equality they deserve. Women deserve the effort of those in public office to achieve this equality pay and end this discussion once and for all."
  • Health Care Reform: "Obsessing over repealing a law you can’t repeal is bad for one’s health. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was single handedly one of the greatest steps this country took to ensure all American’s were able to live a long lasting life. As we all know, the PPACA is not perfect, however it does lie out some excellent ground work."
  • National Security: "As a Navy Chief, now separated, I have no greater obligation and duty than to protect the safety and security of our country and her citizens, especially here at home. We’re engaged in a global war against terror involving multiple fronts, repeated deployments, thousands dead and wounded, and the ever asked question of when it will end? Our engagement must be smart, strategic, and precise."
