Minor parties in Delaware face trouble
DOVER, Delaware: House Bill 245 was first passed on June 29, 2009 by the Delaware House of Representatives. Fast forward to today, and now the bill will receive a hearing in the Senate Insurance and Elections Committee. The bill, which was passed unanimously, will make the obstacle more difficult for minor parties to gain ballot access in the state.
According to the specifics of the bill, it increases the number of registered voters needed for a political party to qualify for the ballot. The increase will be changed from 300 registered voters to about 600, or one-twentieth of 1% of the state total to one-tenth of 1% of the state total.
