Mississippi House expands the ability for local alcohol votes
JACKSON, Mississippi: The Mississippi House of Representatives voted on Bill 661 which will allow for the county seat of Rankin, Brandon, to have the ability to allow for alcohol by a vote from residents. The Bill adds Brandon to a list of areas which are allowed to serve alcohol even if they are in fully or partially dry counties. Though the Bill allows for alcohol in the city, a petition by Brandon city residents would still be needed and a positive vote would have to be secured in order for alcohol to actually be serves within the city. House members also expect to have another bill which would expand the list further for more areas to have the ability to vote on allowing alcohol in their area. The cities of Flowood and Pearl in Rankin County already have the ability to serve alcohol. The Bill still needs approval from the Mississippi Senate.
