Mississippi State Representative switches parties
JACKSON, Mississippi: After representing the people of District 44 for six years as a Democrat, State Rep. C. Scott Bounds has decided to switch parties and become a Republican. Bounds announced his decision on May 10 at Republican Party headquarters in Jackson. His switch brings the balance of power in the House to 50 Republicans and 72 Democrats.
Bounds cited his conservative principles as reason for the change, stating, “The beliefs of effective, fiscally responsible and service oriented government, but not wasteful government, are the principles on which I represent my constituency. The Mississippi Republican Party embraces these same beliefs. I am changing parties, but I am not changing anything about myself or my desire and proven ability to serve each and every one of my constituents. I will continue to respond to the inquiries and needs of my constituency as I always have."
