JACKSON, Mississippi: Senator Joey Fillingane has filed an abortion amendment similar to the 2011 Amendment which was defeated by voters. This new proposed amendment would seek similar protections against abortion, protecting life at birth and banning public moneys from being used to fund abortions. Fillingane did note that the bill is unlikely to even make it on to this years ballot, the deadline for filing proposed bills is February 16. Opponents to last years amendment noted their disapproval of this new bill, stating that voters already gave their voice to the issue of abortion and those views should be respected. Proponents of the previous bill though countered that they were grateful that there were still legislators working towards pro-life legislation.[1]
