Missouri rep. files amendment to block gun control bills
Carson City, Missouri: Representative Mike Leara (R) introduced a bill on February 18 that would make "propos[ing] a piece of legislation that further restricts the right of an individual to bear arms, as set forth under the second amendment of the Constitution of the United States" a Class D Felony. Leara already admits, however, that he does not expect this piece of legislation to pass. Instead, he asserted that he "filed HB 633 as a matter of principle and as a statement in defense of the Second Amendment rights of all Missourians." Leara faces opposition within his party, with fellow Representative Ryan Silvey (R) tweeting that Leara's bill "Highlights the problem with proposing bills to get attention."
