This measure sought to add a tax of $.5 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further five years in order to help pay for the Oregon Historical Society. The society helps run the museum and library in downtown Portland and was in need of further funding to remain in operation. A citizen oversight committee will also be formed in order to ensure funds are used for their intended use.[2] The measure will raise around $2 million a year for the society for the five year period it is in place. The society hopes to find a longer term solution to the monetary problem with the state in that five year period it gets funding from the county.[3]
