Myrtle Cole is a member of the San Diego, California City Council, representing District 4. She was first elected to serve a partial term in a special election on June 3, 2013, following the resignation of former District 4 representative Tony Young. She won election to a full term on June 3, 2014.

Cole is the first African-American woman to serve on city council in San Diego's history.[1]


Cole's professional experience includes working for the United Domestic Workers.[1]

The city of San Diego, California held elections for city council on November 4, 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 6, 2014. Because one candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary election for District 4, its general election was called off. Incumbent Myrtle Cole defeated Blanca Lopez Brown, Tony Villafranca and Bruce Williams.[2][3]
