NY State Board of Elections settle with feds on MOVE Act
By Kyle Maichle
The settlement will be filed as part of an official complaint by the Justice Department. Details of the settlement reveal that the Justice Department will intervene in four upstate New York counties that have failed to meet deadlines for sending out military and overseas ballots. The counties of Putnam, Erie, Niagara and Westchester have not sent out overseas and military ballots according to Justice Department records.
Douglas Kellner, the Chairman of the New York State Board of Elections, said that the terms of the settlement would include extending the deadline for when ballots can be turned in, requiring counties that are beginning to send out ballots to do so by overnight shipping, and sending email notifications to absentee voters to indicate how they want to receive their ballots electronically.
