This measure sought to renew the current parks levy which is set at a rate of $.24 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further five years in order to continue to pay for park and recreation maintenance and operational costs.

The question on the ballot:
|Shall the expired previous voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section 6, of the Michigan Constitution in New Buffalo Township, of .25 mills (25 cents per $1,000 of taxable value), reduced to .2430 mills by the required millage rollbacks, be renewed at .2430 mills (24.3 cents per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for five years, 2012 through 2016 inclusive, for park and recreation acquisition, maintenance, equipment, staffing, programming, operation and improvements, raising an estimated $127,974.00 in the first year the millage is levied based on the most recent taxable value.|
